St Mary’s College joins eSafety Champions Network

St Mary’s College’s ICT Manager, Neil Thomas has joined a community of teachers and staff representatives dedicated to prioritising cyber safety at schools across Australia.

Neil is now a registered eSafety Champion, which provides him with the necessary information, resources and support to lead the conversation about online safety at the College.

As a member of the eSafety Champions Network, Neil will have direct access to eSafety’s expert education and training to help safeguard our College against online harms and promote positive online experiences.

He will also be able to leverage the network to request timely support and advice on online issues affecting our school and wider College community and raise awareness of prevention strategies through the sharing of resources with teachers and school staff.

In addition to teachers expressing the need for a dedicated curriculum to help keep children safer online, eSafety research released in 2022 revealed three-quarters of Australian teenagers wanted online safety information delivered through trusted channels – principally through their school.

To help address these challenges and increase our students’ awareness of cyberbullying and its impacts, the College will be adding two informational images, pictured below, which will be displayed on rotation around our school.
